Surrey East Launches National Neighbourhood Health Implementation Programme: A New Era for Community Care

Surrey East has marked a major milestone in local health and care with the launch of its National Neighbourhood Health Implementation Programme (NNHIP), a pioneering initiative designed to bring more coordinated, accessible care directly to communities. The launch event welcomed over 150 guests from health, care, voluntary organisations, and local authorities, all united in their commitment to improving neighbourhood health and wellbeing.

NNHIP is a national programme by NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care and Surrey East is one of 43 sites selected as part of the first cohort after applications were submitted in August. Its goal is to shift more services from hospitals into neighbourhoods, uniting providers, care teams, and community organisations into a single, collaborative model. This means care is delivered closer to home, making it easier for people to access the support they need, when they need it.

Celebrating Local Achievements

The launch event featured a vibrant marketplace, with stalls from each of Surrey East’s 12 neighbourhoods showcasing the excellent work already underway. From innovative health projects to collaborative community initiatives, guests explored how local teams are making a real difference to people’s lives. The event was a true celebration of creativity, dedication, and the impact of neighbourhood working.

Putting Communities First

NNHIP is fundamentally connected with local neighbourhood teams, ensuring seamless, end-to-end care for residents. People living with frailty, those at risk of or living with multiple long-term conditions, and anyone needing support with mental health and wellbeing will benefit from joined-up services and proactive care.

National Perspective: Inspiring Keynote Speeches

A highlight of the event was the keynote session featuring Dr Claire Fuller, National Medical Director for NHS England and Interim National Priority Programme Director for Neighbourhood Health, and Daniel Elkeles, Chief Executive of NHS Providers. Both speakers shared their vision for neighbourhood health at a national level, emphasising the importance of collaboration, innovation, and delivering integrated care closer to home. Their insights reinforced Surrey East’s commitment to building on best practice and ensuring that local communities remain at the heart of health and care transformation.

A Shared Vision for the Future

Speakers from across the system, including NHS leaders, local authority representatives and voluntary sector partners - shared their ambitions for neighbourhood health. The message was clear: by working together, listening to local voices, and supporting voluntary organisations, Surrey East can build healthier, more connected neighbourhoods.

Looking Ahead
As the event drew to a close, guests left with a renewed excitement and optimism for the future of neighbourhood health in Surrey East. The launch has set Surrey East's commitments in stone for 2026, inspiring all involved to build on achievements to date and continue working together to deliver truly integrated, community-focused care for everyone.
